With God's help, there is a way to lift the burden
and rediscover your self-worth, and find joy and
zest for life. Restore your
life to one of confidence, peace, hope and contentment.
Let me show you how easy this can be done. We will begin by helping you
understand how your self-esteem may have been damaged, and how you can begin an exciting journey of
rebuilding and restoring your self-esteem.
To learn how to restore
and rebuild your self-esteem, let's discover how
life challenges that I call "sorrow issues", may have
been a root cause or contributing factor to lowered self
esteem, and then, how you can take a new direction,
and be rebuilt in mind and spirit, feeling the
true sense of value you have. Let's begin an
exciting journey.
The Life Experiences and Emotions that lower Self-Esteem

How you derive your
feelings of self-esteem and feelings of value is a
complex process. It's quite possible that every life event you experienced
and everything ever said to you, all contribute to your feelings of self
worth.
Let's investigate how life events may have impacted your
sense of self-worth and self-esteem.
Lets Start
Started with
Step #1
In some cases, a cause
or contributing factor of lowered self-esteem can be traced back to what I call a "sorrow."
A sorrow includes the following:
- Traumatic Life Events (dysfunctional
early childhood, neglect, abuse, abusive
relationships, people being critical or demeaning, job loss, divorce, financial setbacks,
etc. )
- Losing Things you Had
- Never receiving things You needed, such as nurturing, care and positive reinforcement.
- Serious illness, injury or
personal trauma.
- Setbacks and Disappointments in
Careers and Personal Life
- Life not turning out as you
anticipated
- Too much being demanded of you!
- What is expected of you exceeds
your abilities
- Not enough resources (money, time, etc)
to meet the demands placed upon you.
- Loss of Loved ones, through
death, disagreements or separation.
Sorrow can make you feel incomplete,
as if you do not have everything you need to be whole and
successful.
Then Step 2......
As a direct result of
sorrow, you probably experienced
fear. For example, the:
- Fear of experiencing a similar, or
other, loss
- Fear of being rejected by others
because of your perceived deficiencies or inadequacies,
- Fear of being harmed again in
some way
- Fear of Failure...or
sometimes...fear of success!
- Fear of being unable to
live up to what
is expected or demanded of you.
Next, the....
Fear Creates Anger.
Some people vent their anger at others, while others
turn this anger inward and feel it as Guilt, Shame
or Depressing thoughts.
In some cases,
depression is anger turned inward towards yourself.
As a Result......
Self Esteem is
Lowered and you may experience feelings of unworthiness. Your
motivation and drive
to try new things often decreases because you
have less and less confidence in your abilities.
And Finally....
You Begin To Worry or
Think Too Much, possibly creating feelings of anxiety.
You may worry about another sorrow issue
occurring, but it can expand into worrying
about many things, leaving you stressed out. As your mind fills with worry,
your ability to perform tasks, interact with others,
and sleep decreases. This adds to your
lowered self-esteem and feelings of self-worth as well.
The Downward Spiral
If left unchecked, this pattern may continue into a
downward
spiral, with each new sorrow creating more fear and lower
and lower feelings of self-esteem and value.
Is This Happening to You?
Many people tell me over and over again, "You
just described what happened to me, how did
you know this about me?" The reason I knew
was because this is how everyone
experiences life sorrows!
Some emotions may be
stronger than others, but
each
one is there for every sorrow we experience. If you
think it through, I'm sure you will agree, these emotions
combined is what may be contributing to your
lack of self-esteem.
